Determining, in consultation with the Department Manager, the group objectives and policies on short and long term and ensuring that the roles and responsibilities are put in place.
Coaching and personal development of the group members so they are capable for their assignments and employable towards the future (building on strengths).
Ensuring that there are adequate resources and tools at the proper time, taking responsibility for the group's competences and assigned technology areas, the group's technology vision, IP generation, participation in generating product and technology roadmaps, maintaining and improving the departments knowledge and expertise.
Guiding Project Leaders and ensuring the optimal allocation of resources to the projects.
Ensuring appropriate personnel management practices regarding recruitment and selection, adequate staffing, remuneration, performance appraisals, people development and talent development, make-or-buy policy/outsourcing, prepare/ manage budgets (AOP & KIP), infrastructure and working conditions.
Ensuring a good cooperation with other disciplines and groups, developing and maintaining good peer relationships with customers and suppliers, partners via networking, regular visits, inter-group meetings, participation in MRT's, with the objective to become the main entrance point for the group.
Keeping abreast of technical and organizational developments in the own professional field and maintains contacts with other R&D centres and universities (open innovation).
Stimulates and fully adopts an End User Driven Innovation focus and improves focus and insight on partnering with internal and external partners.
Contributes to the definition of the front-end innovation program together with management and customer base.
Responsibility for the creative climate in the group (Generating innovations, Friday-afternoon experiments) and contributing to the level of engagement in the organization.
