An Italian optics firm has developed a way to mould secondary optics over power LEDs.
"These LED modules can be used directly as lighting for down lights, for example," said Sharp, which is supplying the emitters.
The firm, IdealLED, takes Sharp's Zenigata LEDs and encapsulates them with plastic which, to handle the direct contact, is rated at over 100°C.
Ledil of Finland and DFO in China are two makers of conventional secondary optics that have recently started offering products for Sharp LEDs, in particular its DoubleDome, Zenigata, and MiniZeni ranges.
